Elder Russel M Nelson said in his conference talk of April 2017 Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives:
When you reach up for the Lord’s power in your life with the same intensity that a drowning person has when grasping and gasping for air, power from Jesus Christ will be yours. When the Savior knows you truly want to reach up to Him--when He can feel that the greatest desire of your heart is to draw His power into your life--you will be led by the Holy Ghost to know exactly what you should do.
Nephi tells us that "the Holy Ghost will tell you all things what ye should do".(2 Nephi 32:5) I love that scripture, but have been frustrated that it didn't seem to work that way for me. I flail around and guess at how to deal with problems and wonder why I'm not given answers, if what Nephi said is true. Elder Nelson clarifies this, saying that it is only as we stretch and reach out to Him to our full extent, as we crave direction as a drowning man craves air, that is the time that "the Lord will lead [us] by the hand and give [us] answer to [our] prayers ". (D&C 112:10)

The other part of it is that you have to be willing to completely submit to the will of the Lord, withholding nothing. Sometimes I'm not willing to completely give up pride or selfishness or other things that keep me from receiving that guidance.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that there's a real and profound different between "praying" and "pleading". And a very big different in the results of those prayers.
